MaHaBote: Part 3

***Note: Unfortunately in this day and age, there are both legitimate and illegitimate Academy's and Vedic Schools of Astrology offering to teach you MaHaBote - Burmese Birthday Astrology in various parts of the world, and not all of these institutions are credible sources, or qualified to teach this system. In the Far East, it is known that each planet has dominion over directions of the compass. Therefore, each client should know what directions are auspicious for certain events and activities, and which directions are inauspicious for them. To determine what those directions are, we use the Directional Charts.

Let's use our Nov. 15, 1949, (let's make her Female this time) Tuesday Born, for our example:

To apply Directions Chart:

1. Identify the Birth Planet (Mars, in this case)

2. Rotate Chart 2 so that High Post is over the position of Mars on Chart 1.

Example:

1. The superimposed chart gives us the S.E as the High Post for the Mars Born. (Good position in work).

2. Then we have Mercury and the South ruling over the affairs of Longevity and Medical. (For anything to do with her health, doctor's appointments, tests, examinations, hospitalizations.)

3. Next we have Saturn and the S.W. ruling Buildings and Houses, in Towns and Cities. (Real Estate should be in the S.W. section of a town or city...or at the very least, the doors of the house should face that direction.)

4. We have Jupiter ruling the West in the Inauspicious House; for any habitual or critical activities...she should by all means, avoid the West. This is the most inauspicious direction for a Mars Born. So, to live in a house with a main activity taking place in the West, or doors facing West, is not in her best interest.

5. Next we have Rahu ruling the N.W.; the place of Treasuries or Warehouses. This is a good direction in which to do your banking, etc.

6. Now we have Venus ruling the North and Sacred Places. For worship or church related activities, head North from the residence.

7. For Permanent Places and Bedrooms, we have the Sun ruling the N.E. The bedroom should be in the N.E part of the house.

8. And lastly, we have the Moon ruling Gardens and Pleasant Views. This is a good direction for the Mars Born to plant gardens, or put that bay window.

One of the questions you may have is "where" the direction is taken from...the place of birth or the current residence. Any truly major questions should be answered from the place of birth; all others can be answered from the current residence.

The Directional Chart may seem a little unusual to the Westerner, but try not to be too quick to dismiss it before you try it...it's a valuable little tool. And also, we should try to set up the most desirable and beneficial environment for our clients, who come to us seeking information. Who are we to judge what is and is not valuable to them? Right? We are trying to introduce some sort of integrated harmony into the client's life, and although we cannot take their stresses and trials away from them, we can certainly work with the tools we have, to try and mitigate, or if possible, alleviate, those stressful periods. And once you begin to work with the Directions, and the other different features of the MaHaBote, you may just be pleasantly surprised!

Horary and Electional MaHaBote:

For Horary questions in MaHaBote, it is really important that the client has stated the question clearly, and that you have interpreted it correctly. In other words, never be afraid to ask the client to re-phrase the question if you feel it's not clear. If you are confused, or the client is presenting a vague question, or fudging around with a question, this will not work...you will be unable to see any answer. When everything is clear, draw up the chart, then give the answer astrologically. Trust in the chart to give you the answer. If you have read the chart wrong, admit it, and watch what chain of events unfold. Keep records so that you may be then able to see where you may have made an error in the reading of the chart. If you are in any way involved with the outcome of the reading, chances are you may have read into it what you wanted to see. But do keep records if you're serious about Horary. That is the absolute best way to learn.

If you are working with clients on Horary, educate them about when the best possible time is to present their question to you, and that will always be when it is strongly on their mind to the exclusion of everything else. If it's a passing thought, it won't work. If they inquire by phone, always use the time in the location that you are in, as the correct time. If they inquire through the mail, use the time that you open the envelope as the correct time. If they call you and can't get a hold of you, they can jot the time down themselves, that they tried to reach you, and give it to you later, however, sometimes it's better if they wait until it's utmost on their minds again. If it's that important, it will definitely resurface. Sometimes, the fact that they couldn't reach you, is an indication that the answer wasn't ready for them then. Try again later.

*** The Asian Day goes from Sunrise to Sunrise; not to be confused with the Rahu PM birth, which is calculated from 12:00 PM.

To Apply:

1. Locate the day and the time period desired.

2. Place the planet for that segment of time in the middle of the sequence. ("On the Fence", like in the Confirmation Chart.)

3. The planet that rules the next segment of time is placed above the planet that's on the fence. (Planets follow in sequence from left to right.)

4. The third planet is placed below the planet that is on the fence.

5. Continue with the fourth planet placed above, followed by the fifth placed below, the sixth above; the seventh below.

6. If you come to the end of a row, you must start at the beginning of the same row to complete the sequence, however do NOT repeat the day's Planetary Lord.*

Again, always mark the Birth Planet with an asterisk*

***You will notice that each row begins and ends with the day's Planetary Lord. When following the sequence, if the Day Lord has already been used, skip over it to the next planet.

Example:

Query: Will I move? Query time: 1:10 Sunday. Thursday Born client.

Mercury

Sun working for

Jupiter*

-----Saturn---- "on the fence" (can go either way)

Mars

Venus working against

Moon

Notice how we went back to the beginning of Sunday, and did not repeat the Planetary Lord, because we had already used it.

So, what would you answer to that query???

I would say yes, and the move will be in your best interest, because Mercury, (think of what Mercury rules...very "movable" planet) is in the top position, along with Jupiter, the Birth Planet, and the Sun, who are Friends. Saturn, who can work for or against, because of sitting on the fence, is working "for" because she is a Positive Element to the Sun and Neutral to both Mercury and Jupiter. No problems there. So chances are looking real good for this move to occur, and be beneficial.

Now, when reading a Horary, try to see the planets and what they stand for, ONLY in relation to the question as it is specifically been asked...and never be afraid to ask the client to re-phrase the question more clearly, if it is not clear to you what they are looking for.

Electional Astrology:

The Horary Chart can also be used for Electional Astrology...it simply means what time you or your client "elect" to do something, such as start up a business, get married, make a speech, etc....Again, if using Electional Astrology, make sure that you always blend it back to the birth chart, focusing on the activity in question, and never forgetting the Birth Planets friends and enemies.

Well, we are at the end now. I had planned on giving you all a good copy of a Permanent Calendar for use in the event you don't have an ephemeris, but have now realized there is no way I can do this on the computer in a coherent manner (at least not until I am a little more proficient with Excel) so, I have attempted and it is certainly less than perfect, but an attempt at a Permanent Calendar can be found at Permanent Planetary Calendar. So because this is not too intelligible at this date, the only additional tool you may need for the calculations is an ephemeris, or a table that gives you the day of the week the birth falls on. Good luck to you all in your studies, and once learned, I hope the MaHaBote becomes the precious little gem it has been for me throughout the years. When I'm short on time and curious...what a job it does. Or if a client has a query..what a help it is. And along side my Tropical or Sidereal Charts, it's like a little friend.
