Divisional Chart Assessment of Strength/Weakness

Natural Benefics in Divisional Charts: Jupiter, Venus, Mercury – Moon ONLY when in its own sign or exalted in divisional chart.

Natural Malefics in Divisional Charts: Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu.

To help differentiate between Rasi and Divisional Chart strengths and weaknesses, please consider the following terms:

“Well Conditioned and Poorly Conditioned” used for Rasi description of strength and weakness.

“Strong and Weak” used for Divisional description of strength and weakness.

Sole Enemies: Counting from Vimshottari Dasha, it will always be the 6th planet)

DIVISIONAL  STRENGTH

1st Tier Determinants for Divisional Strength:

  1. Exaltation
  2. Placement in own Rasi – including Rahu in Aquarius and Ketu in Aries

------------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Dig bala – including Rahu in 7th and Ketu in 10th
  2. Vargottama (only if it is vargottama in own sign.) If vargottama and debilitated – no help – unless the dispositor is exalted. So either the planet or the dispositor should be well conditioned.

IF A PLANET ACHIEVES STRENGTH BY ONE OF THE ABOVE CRITERIA, IT WILL OFTEN SUPERCEDE THE CONSIDERATIONS OF WEAKNESS EXCEPT FOR DEBILITATION.

2nd Tier Determinants for Divisional Strength:

1.    Associated or aspected by benefics

2.    Flanking of natural benefics

3.    Hosted by a friend

DIVISIONAL  WEAKNESS

1st Tier Considerations for Divisional Weakness:

  1. DEBILITATION –  Prime factor

2nd Tier Considerations for Divisional Weakness:

  1. Association with or aspected by the number 1 enemy above

(sole or Nadi Enemy - excluding Ketu)

2.    Association and aspect of multiple natural malefics.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

3.    Flanking of natural malefics

4.    Hosted by an Enemy

REMEMBER CONFLUENCE COUNTS (THE HAPPY MEDIUM FOR ASSESSING AND MEETING ALL CONSIDERATIONS).

Use common sense: IF A PLANET HAS DIG BALA, BUT IT IS ASPECTED BY ITS ENEMY AND EVERY NATURAL MALEFIC IN THE CHART – HOW GOOD CAN IT REALLY BE?

Additional Considerations:

There are several ways in which a planet in the Rasi will influence all or some of the Divisioanl Charts:

  1. When Retrograde in Rasi (Strength)
  2. Combust (Weakens)
  3. Planetary War (if defeated, it weakens)
  4. If a planet participates in certain Graha Yogas – additional strength or weakness can occur.

Sankhya Yogas: The geometric formations and Houses involved in these Yogas are:

6th & 8th

3rd & 11th

5th & 9th

4th & 10th

2nd & 12th

1st & 7th

3 Varieties of Sankhya Yogas:

  1. Papa Sankhya Yoga – formation made up of primarily malefics.
  2. Shubha Sankhya Yoga – benefics in 3/11, 2/12/ or 6/8 house placements. These placements all involve dusthanas, however, the other houses may be listed also.
  3. Mishra Sankhya Yoga – same house distribution as the Papa Sankhya Yoga, but a benefic in one house and a malefic in the other.
  4. Rahu and Ketu themselves do not form Papa Sankha Yogas across the 1/7 or 4/10 axis.
