My Dear Friend ~ Barbara Cameron

About Barbara ~ by Sandy L. Crowther

~ Barbara always used to say - "Whether you live in Burma, Java, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, or New Zealand, you'll find the people ready to welcome you and share their culture, making each country a fresh and fascinating adventure." And she should know. Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts USA, when Barbara grew up and married, she was to spend the next 18 years of her life in the Far East and New Zealand, while her husband worked in the Foreign Service as an expert in Asian affairs with the U.S. Government.

She used to tell me...The Burmese have a saying - "When the student is ready, a teacher will arrive." And the teacher did arrive for Barbara. It all happened one day, while living in Burma, when she joined a group of native people who were learning astrology. She soon became deeply involved, and started studying under the native teachers. She mastered both Burmese and Hindu Astrology - both of which have many everyday and practical applications. And upon meeting her...The teacher also arrived for me.

Her experience grew into an important avocation for Barbara, who gave frequent lectures on Burmese Astrology, participated in panel discussions, spoke at many Astrological Conferences and Conventions, gave Workshops, and wrote books and manuals on the subject. She eventually authored three books on Burmese and Hindu Astrology, published by the American Federation of Astrologers. She had plans for three more books, but she passed on before that was to be accomplished. She wanted her book covers to contain all the "colors of the rainbow", and towards the end of her life, she told me that she would leave her unfinished writings in the hands of her youngest son, and she would be back to complete them in his lifetime.

Barbara was a wonderful lady, mother of six children, two girls and four boys, and it is to her that I dedicate any work that I do on MaHaBote to further its name, in the hopes that she looks down on me with a smile.

Her lights burned brightly while here on earth... Perhaps I can keep the flame burning by shining the light of her teachings upon those interested. So while she's resting, I shall pass the flame to you... Please enjoy "Turning the Keys" of the teachings of the MaHaBote.
